"Goodbye to Romance" (Lisa Loeb version) - Bat Head Soup: A Tribute to Ozzy

I’ve known this song for more than twenty years and I keep wondering, why is it that I find the tune really beautiful just now? Maybe because of some occurrences in life that songs become more relatable as we grow older. I first heard it in a double-CD album entitled, “Ozzy Osbourne: Live & Loud”; I think it was 1993. Definitely one of this metal icon’s most awesome concerts! The original recording (1981) was that of his previous guitarist, Randy Rhoads. Excellent work on the guitar solo!

This version however, is from Lisa Loeb. Although it doesn’t really resemble an 80s Pinoy pop song (because the overall sound and guitar solo of this Ozzy tune are virtually retained), it reminds me of “High School Life” by Sharon Cuneta. HAHAHA!!!

Like jokes, at times some songs are half-meant. Half-meant. We can’t be really too sure about everything, especially in love. Some scenarios are still welcome in life. I’d like to think of it not as a goodbye to someone, but only a “someday-it’ll-all-make-sense” kind of tune and a “lullaby to misery”. Sad but clear-headed. Beautiful and timely indeed! At least as far as my life is concerned right now…

FOO FIGHTERS - BEST OF YOU (Official Music Video)

These are the (aging) rock stars of my generation. Still kicking ass! The original version is very angry in its execution, but this actually is a seriously hopeful song. Like full of determination or simply unfazed. That's the artistry of musicians: a little half-meant on the tune, a little tangled unruly in the lyrics. It may be very confusing at times, but so is human emotion where the whole concept is derived from.
