SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING (2017) Review

WARNING: “SEMI-SPOILER”

Very simple story with great visual effects. As I expected, definitely the Spider-Man movie I’ve waited for and really enjoyed watching, not the stupid almost-comedic shit trilogy starring Tobey Maguire. Sorry, Tobey. I slightly liked the Andrew-Garfield-starred Spidey films, but Tom Holland fits “your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man” perfectly. Good work, Sony/Columbia! You finally nailed it.

I like the idea of Spider-Man having a Filipino “off-site/off-action sidekick” and the love interest being a non-white chick (Liz, and even MJ) because sadly, western media has downplayed its portrayal of Black people, Asians, etc. too much in the past. But fortunately, we are now making progress on tearing down stereotypes even more.

Call me shallow, but I think it’s one of mainstream media’s feel-good movies for the young and young-at-heart; that’s not perfect or directly relevant to any crucial issue, but very well made and truly entertaining.

I like Ned, he reminds me a lot about me (pun intended). HAHAHAHA!!!! I love Marisa Tomei, she’s still so pretty! She’s the “hottest” Aunt May so far! HAHAHA!!! And Jennifer Connelly’s voice is still sexy as ever. I am seriously getting attracted to middle-aged (but gorgeous) ladies. I AM FREAKING OLD! HAHAHA!!!

Overall, I give the motion picture an 8 out of 10. I wanted to see more “mecha” stuff, though. I’m predominantly an Iron Man fan, after all.

The Corrs featuring Alejandro Sanz - THE HARDEST DAY

I didn’t know that this now-decade-old song had an official music video. The combination of The Corrs’ music, Alejandro Sanz’s accent and the story concept itself… it’s all so exotic! So beautiful!! I would not want to face such a dilemma in my own life, though. It’s very sad.

We all grow old; but Andrea, Caroline and Sharon are still lovely in their own right…

“THE HARDEST DAY” by The Corrs featuring Alejandro Sanz

One more day
One last drink, before I leave it all behind
And play the role that's meant for us
That said, we say goodbye

One more night (one more night)
By your side (by your side)
Where our dreams collide and all we have is everything
(Ooohhh…)
And there's no pain, no hurt
There's no wrong, it's all right

If I promise to believe, will you believe?
That there's nowhere that we'd rather be
“Nowhere” describes where we are

I've no choice
I love you
Leave
Love you
Wave goodbye
(Bye)
(Yeah…)

And all I ever wanted was to stay
(All I ever wanted was to stay)
Nothing in this world's gonna change
Change

Never wanna wake up from this night
I never (never)
Wanna leave this moment
Waiting for you only
Only you
Never gonna forget every single thing you do
Loving you is my finest hour
Leaving you
The hardest day of my life
The hardest day of my life…

I still breathe (I still breathe)
I still eat (I still eat)
And the sun, it shines the same as it did yesterday
But there's no warmth, no light
I feel empty inside

But I never will regret a single day
It isn't gonna go away
What I'm feeling
(I'm feeling)
For you

I will always love you
Leave
Love you
Wave goodbye
(Love you wave goodbye)

And all
And all I ever wanted was to stay
(All I ever wanted was to stay)
Nothing in this world's gonna change

Never wanna wake up from this night
Never (never)
Wanna leave this moment
Waiting for you only
Only you
Never gonna forget every single thing you do
When loving you is my finest hour
Never knew I'd ever feel this way
I feel for you

Never wanna wake up
(I feel for you, I feel for you)
From this night
Never
(I never)
Wanna leave this moment
Waiting for you only
Only you
Never gonna forget
(Never gonna forget)
Every single thing you do
When loving you is my finest hour
And Leaving you
The hardest day of my life

Never wanna wake up
From this night
Never (I never)
Wanna leave this moment
Waiting for you only
Only you
Never gonna forget…

DAREDEVIL (2014) Review

Depicts a darker New York City: it’s Hell’s Kitchen, after all.

Presents a side of the masked vigilante that tackles more on the technicalities of law practice in the criminal underground, but having decent fight scenes nonetheless. The action (close quarters combat) makes up for the agonizingly slow-paced chitchat of legal jargons.

Rosario Dawson and Elodie Yung (probably the dominating reasons why I continue to watch the series) are so <3<3<3!!! Oh, and the sinister opening credits – wicked!

Good enough but I’m not exactly a die-hard fan…. I give it a 6 out of 10.

A "GOOD" LIFE

"What is a good life that we should aspire to (live)? Is a ‘good’ life one that is enjoyed with pleasure and without risk? Or is a good life one that has a chance to achieve great deeds?”

PART OF LIFE

"As painful as some memories might be, they are ultimately what make us complete."

Train Performs 'Drops of Jupiter' | Billboard Live Studio Session

"DROPS OF JUPITER" by Train

Now that she's back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair, hey, hey, hey
She acts like summer and walks like rain
Reminds me that there's time to change, hey, hey, hey
Since the return from her stay on the moon
She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey.

Tell me, did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it through the Milky Way to see the lights all faded,
And that Heaven is overrated?

Tell me, did you fall for a shooting star?
One without a permanent scar,
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there?

Now that she's back from that soul vacation
Tracing her way through the constellation, hey, hey... hhmmm
She checks out Mozart while she does Tae Bo
Reminds me that there's room to grow, hey, hey, hey, hey... hey.

Now that she's back in the atmosphere
I'm afraid that she might think of me as
Plain ol' Jane told a story 'bout a man
Who is too afraid to fly so he never did land.

But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet?
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day,
And head back to the Milky Way?
Tell me, did Venus blow your mind?
Was it everything you wanted to find,
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there?

Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken?
Your best friend always stickin' up for you?
Even when I know you're wrong
Can you imagine no first dance, freeze-dried romance?
Five-hour phone conversation?
The best soy latte that you ever had, and... me?

But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet?
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day,
And head back toward Milky Way?

And tell me, did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded,
And that Heaven is overrated?

Tell me, did you fall for a shooting star?
One without a permanent scar,
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself?

Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na... na, na.

Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day?

Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na...

Did you fall for a shooting star?
Fall for a shooting star?

Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na...

And are you lonely looking for yourself out there?

"THE FLU" (2013) review

WARNING: “SEMI”-SPOILER (ALTHOUGH VERY, VERY LATE! HEHE..)

I almost don’t watch South Korean movies (as if there was a thriving “North”! HAHAHAHA!!!!), I don’t know who their stars are or what-have-you. I don’t really like Korean romance dramas; they appear to be the majority of shows our country loves so much about them. My sister has favorite series which she "religiously" follow, I just can’t escape because she sometimes watches them during our meals. But once in a while, I try to catch up with the bandwagon when some motion pictures get positive acclaim on internet chatter. I just happened to stumble upon this film online while looking for Train to Busan last 2016. It took me a year to realize that I should try to watch this one too, because I downloaded them both anyway. So I did.

I don’t know if it’s 100% original because it kind of reminds me of Outbreak (1995) although having a different plot, and I’m aware that Koreans have already adapted US movies such as Cellular (2004). But nevertheless, it’s well made and most probably had a very nice budget.

It’s quite timely and relatable, since we have been experiencing the proliferation of a type of avian flu in Central Luzon for many weeks now. And kind of awkward that they depicted a Filipino illegal immigrant to be both “sinner” and “saint” in the pandemic process. Overall, it’s a good motion picture. Definitely worth watching.

This girl is so cute! If you can’t have a consistent “comic relief” character in a movie, there has to be a tender, innocent side – it adds charm and value to the film itself.
